A look at local candidate rosters, decisions as General Election Day nears

YORK COUNTY – The 2024 General Election Day is nearly here as Tuesday, Nov. 5, is right around the corner.

​And early voting has been underway with a large local turnout, according to the York County Clerk’s office.
The following is a look at local candidate rosters as many local races will be decided on that day:

• York County Commissioner District 2: One seat, one candidate, LeRoy Ott
• York County Commissioner District 5: One seat, one candidate, Joe Burgess
• Henderson City Mayor: One seat, one candidate, Corbin Tessman
• Henderson City Council: One seat, one candidate, Kevin Friesen
• York City Mayor: One seat, one candidate, Barry Redfern
• York City Council: Four seats, four candidates, Jerry Wilkinson, Jennifer Sheppard, Tony North, Jeff McGregor
• Centennial School Board: Three seats, three candidates, Doug Cast, Bryce Borchers, Cole Henderson
• Cross County School Board: Three seats, three candidates, Quinn Peterson, Cindy Nyberg, Aaron Phillips
• Exeter-Milligan School Board: Three seats, four candidates, Eric Milton, Paul Jurgensen, Rachel Johnson, Eric Johnson
• Hampton School Board: Three seats, four candidates, Megan Faller, Tamara Wiens, Derek Klute, Mitchell Fagan
• Heartland School Board: Three seats, three candidates, Lacey Gloystein, Tyler Newton, Jeb Mierau
• High Plains School Board: Three seats, three candidates, Dorinda Brown, Kayla Zoucha, Chad Hoffman

• Village of Gresham: Three seats, five candidates, James O’Donnell, Justin Brahmsteadt, Colton Luettel, Tony Cain, Theo Prusia
• Village of Lushton: Three seats, five candidates, Jason Balaban, Diana Weisheit, Eric Gammill, Darwin Weisheit, Greg Saltzman
• Village of McCool Junction: Three seats, three candidates, Reid VanWesten, Brennan White, Kendra Stevens
• Village of Thayer: Two seats, one candidate, Faron Hines
• Village of Waco: Three seats, four candidates, Robert Saeger, Todd Bauder, Carl Gordon, Justin Beck

Also on the ballot, voters will be asked regarding the retention of judges in District – Judge James Stecker, Judge Rachel Daugherty and Judge Lynelle Homolka.
They will also be asked about the retention of Nebraska Workers’ Compensation Court Judge Julie Martin.
On the ballot will be Southeast Community College for Board of Governors with candidates being Chuck Byers and Neal Stenberg.
For voters in the York Public School District, there will be the question of whether a $39.5 million bond issue should be passed to expand and renovate the York Elementary School.
Of course, there are the races for United States President, U.S. Senate, U.S. Representative.
And there are a number of statewide initiatives and referendum measures to be considered.
