YORK – With the 2024-25 fiscal year nearing its close, it’s also time for the York County Commissioners and the county’s budget committee to tackle the task of formulating the budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
The York County Historical Association has recently made major changes with new board members and active committees – and they are moving toward a change of location.
YORK – The installation of a fire suppression system in the York County Jail is likely going to be very expensive, says Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier.
YORK COUNTY – Years ago, York County and the village of Lushton signed off on an agreement in which Lushton would give the county its highway allocation funds and the county road crews would take care of the roads/streets within the village.
York County residents will have a series of opportunities to voice their concerns, visions and values during the month of June as townhall meetings are scheduled at a variety of locations, as part of the updating process for the county’s comprehensive plan.
York County is growing, changing and evolving and everyone has a say in how the future looks regarding development, zoning and more. The intent to is to gather ideas, spark dialogue and charge the course for the county’s comprehensive plan. Consultants for the county say, “These gatherings are not just meetings – they are opportunities to make your voice heard and to influence how our county grows, connects and thrives in the years to come. These townhalls are open to everyone – residents, business owners, students, farmers, parents and retirees as every perspective matters.” The following are the dates, times and locations of the townhall meetings, which are being held in a variety of locations throughout the county:
YORK – Conditional use permits have been issued to Dustin Chrisman, operating as Double Barrell Farms, for three locations in York County where he is breeding, hatching and raising pheasants.
YORK – Tuesday morning, May 27, the York County Commissioners will be meeting in regular session. Among the topics they will discuss are conditional use permits. This matter will be brought to them by Nate Heinz, the county’s zoning administrator, after prior conversations among the planning/zoning commission.
YORK -- The decision has been made to move today's Memorial Day service, otherwise planned for Greenwood Cemetery, to the National Guard Armory in York. York Veterans Service Officer Nick Wollenburg said due to the threat of rain, the services will be held inside.
Wollenburg also noted the large flags will stay out at the cemetery until Wednesday (rather than be picked up tonight). YORK -- The annual Memorial Day Service at Greenwood Cemetery in York will be held at 10:30 a.m., as American Legion Post 19 will host the event. They also note how flags will be put up at 7 a.m., on May 24, and they will be taken down on May 26 – volunteers are needed to assist.
In the case of rain, York County Veterans Service Officer Nick Wollenburg says the flags will be put out on May 24 as planned. However, if it rains on Monday, the flags will remain out until Wednesday evening so they have a chance to dry. Also, if it rains on Memorial Day, the Memorial Day service will be held at the National Guard Armory instead of Greenwood Cemetery. YORK – The York County Commissioners reflected on lessons learned and information reaffirmed from the latest budget session provided by the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) in York.
