YORK – Patrick Kreifels, regional coordinator for Region V Systems, met with the York County Commissioners this past week, to make his annual report ahead of the budget-planning season.
YORK – York County Sheriff Sergeant Taylor Samek has been awarded the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Hero Award.
This award is given to individual drug recognition experts for efforts in removing impaired drivers from the road. Sgt. Samek removed 30 drug-impaired and 14 alcohol-impaired drivers from the roadways in 2024. This marks his fourth consecutive MADD award. He won this award while having a field trainee in nine of 12 calendar months. YORK – Janelle Vice, corrections supervisor, has been named the York County Sheriff’s employee of the quarter.
YORK – Matt Kasik, CEO of Apace, made the agency’s annual presentation and budget request for the York County Commissioners this past week.
YORK – Last year was unique as two overpass structures, over Interstate 80, were hit by vehicles in accidents. What resulted was closure of both for long periods of time, as repair work had to be done.
While these are county roads going over the interstate, the responsibility of fixing the structures lies with the state. The good news is that both damaged structures are fixed and both county roads are open. York County Highway Superintendent Harvey Keim told the county commissioners this past week how Road W is now open to traffic over the interstate. “Both locations are fixed and open,” Keim said. He also noted how work on a bridge on Road 12 has been completed and this bridge was set to be opened late last week. Meanwhile, road crews continue doing crack sealing and road maintenance, with the intention to start one-year projects soon. YORK COUNTY -- The York County Sheriff's Office has announced Criminal Investigator Nolan Janzen successfully completing the department's field training program.
Janzen will serve in the role as criminal Investigator. He came to the sheriff's department with previous law enforcement experience. "Our field training program is used to teach newly-hired deputies about practices, policies and proper procedures associated with being a deputy at our agency," said YSO Sergeant Taylor Samek. "The program lasts 16 weeks and is taught in addition to the training received from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center." Sgt. Samek, who serves as the field training coordinator, presented Criminal Investigator Janzen with the department's challenge coin to celebrate this achievement. YORK COUNTY – York County will soon be asking for applications and hiring a new weed superintendent, upon the resignation of the last person to hold the position.
