YORK – After months of discussions, workshops and diving into the numbers, the York County Commissioners have passed the county’s budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year.

YORK COUNTY – The York County Commissioners will hold their 2024-25 fiscal year budget hearing at 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
The hearing will be held before they start their regular meeting. Only a 1% increase is expected in this new fiscal year. In this year’s proposed budget, the commissioners are proposing growing the reserves by infusing it with inheritance tax funds. The commissioners have agreed to raises for county employees and deputy elected officials, and they’ve agreed to purchasing a truck and trailer for the roads department as one of the major capital purchases for that department. The county board members have also agreed to continue making contributions to outside agencies, such as: CASA, $42,000; Blue Valley Community Action, $11,000; Hope Crisis center, $13,000; Blue Valley Behavioral Health, $5,000; York Adopt A Pet, $5,000; Kilgore Library, $17,500; York County Development Corporation, $76,000; Southeast Nebraska Development District, $7,449. YORK – While the York County Commissioners will be holding their annual budget hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 17, they will also be meeting in regular session to consider a number of agenda items.
Those will include the consideration of appointing John Prusia to the York County Aging Services Board for a two-year term. They will also consider an appraisal contract with Vanguard Appraisals Inc. A special designated liquor license application will be considered for a vendor at the Boo on the Farm event at the Wessels Living History Farm. They will adjust an hourly employee wage and they will consider interlocal agreements with Region Systems and Apace. As the board of equalization, they will hear tax list corrections from the assessor, as well as talk about a clerical error report. They will also discuss tax refund request letters. The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m., in the commissioners’ meeting room which is located on the main floor of the courthouse, next to the clerk’s office. YORK COUNTY – One person was injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 81 and Highway 34 at approximately 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 12.
YORK COUNTY – Gary Petersen, the Seward/York County emergency management director, has announced an upcoming C02 first responder tactical response training opportunity.

YORK COUNTY – The York County Commissioners will be convening as the York County Board of Equalization at 9 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 13, to consider some valuation protests.
This critical role serves as the vital communications link between the public needing help and emergency services. As members of the public safety ecosystem, Public Safety Telecommunicators are typically the first point of contact when a person reaches out for help. This entails a candidate to be able to work independently in a high-stress environment while receiving and evaluating incoming emergency and administrative requests for emergency services, including but not limited to law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS); triaging those requests for service; providing guidance and assistance to the public in life-safety situations; and coordinating appropriate responses to high-risk, high-stress operations, with the objective of keeping all participants safe.
Requirements: Applicants must be 19 years of age; possess a high school diploma/GED; and hold a valid Nebraska driver’s license. Applicates must be dependable, self-motivated, and team-oriented, with a desire to provide a service to the community. Must have working knowledge of Windows-based software and various other computerized electronic equipment. Have flexibility to adapt to changes. Have great attention to detail and empathy towards the customers’ needs and concerns. Must be able to adapt and function, without reservation, in high-stress situations. Must pass a background investigation that meets all local, state, and federal requirements as well as to be without felony convictions. Must be able to perform essential job functions (reasonable accommodation may be made on a case-by-case basis). Must have never committed, been involved in, or been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor.
