​YORK – This past week, during the York County Commissioners’ regular meeting, they noted, “the saga of court and inmate related costs continues.”

​YORK – The York County Commissioners, sitting as the York County Board of Equalization, officially adopted all the property tax levies for the political subdivisions in York County, during their regular meeting this past week.

​YORK – The Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) recently held its legislative convention in Beatrice and York County officials were in attendance. During that session, York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier asked the NACO board to look into the issue of court-appointed attorneys submitting late billings which subsequently cause havoc when it comes to county budgets.

​YORK – Cosmetic work will soon begin inside the space previously used by the York County Historical Society as there are plans for District 5 Probation to expand its office area into that side of the building.

​YORK – With the end of 2025 quickly approaching, the deadline is arriving for the county to finish spending all of its ARPA (federal COVID relief) dollars.

​York County is seeking a full-time Highway Superintendent to lead our road maintenance and construction efforts.  As Highway Superintendent, you will play a key role in the safety and efficiency of York County’s roads. The primary duties of this position will be coordinating county road/bridge maintenance and projects year-round and leading a skilled road personnel team to do so.  This position acts as Engineer Consultant for the County Roads Department. They plan, design and direct engineering projects such as roads, bridges and/or other related construction projects.  Also, oversight of the Roads budget and resource allocation, coordination with other local governments and contractors, and ensuring all operations meet safety and environmental standards.
Applicants that do not hold a State of Nebraska County Highway Superintendent license will be required to obtain one within 18 months.  A valid Nebraska Driver's License is required and CDL will also be required within 120 days.  Salary will be based upon license class and experience.  Benefit package includes health insurance, wellness program, retirement plan, vacation, holiday & sick leave.  Pre-employment background, physical capacity test, and drug screen required.

​YORK --- York County infuses the road department with money every so many months and the latest infusion wasn’t made that long ago; yet, the amount of money in the road fund has been spent and the commissioners have had to transfer a half million dollars from the inheritance fund to make sure there is enough through the end of the year.

​YORK – This week, during the regular meeting of the York County Commissioners, Rakesh Pai, the owner of the Sun Motel property at the Henderson interchange, expressed his unhappiness with not being included in conversations between officials from Henderson and the county about the status of his property. 

YORK – Harvey Keim, who has been the York County highway superintendent for the last 12 years, has announced his retirement.

​York County officials were among the attendees this week at the 2025 Nebraska Association of County Officials Legislative Conference.
Officials heard presentations about 2027-2030 salary guidelines, legislative updates and an overview of NACO’s platform regarding legislative proposals.
NACO is an organization which works as an educational avenue for elected county officials, as well as a lobbying group to support counties’ interests in state legislative matters.
