YORK COUNTY – End-of-month statistics show the York County Sheriff’s Department had a very busy November.
According to the figures provided by the sheriff’s office:

• There were 329 traffic stops
• Seventy-seven citations were issued
• Deputies responded to 26 accidents
• There were 26 motorist assists
• Nine drunk drivers were identified
• There were nine warrant arrests
• There were four drug arrests
• Total arrests came to 44
• There were 842 total calls for service

YORK – The York County Commissioners will meet in regular session on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

YORK COUNTY – York County Assessor Kurt Bulgrin says entities who received a permissive tax exemption last year must file a Statement of Reaffirmation of Tax Exemption (Form 451A) by Dec. 31.

​YORK – Each year at this time, the county board members officially name the official depositories for the county, for the new calendar year.
Named for 2025 are Cornerstone Bank, Midwest Bank, York State Bank, Henderson State Bank, NPAIT in Lincoln and Union Bank and Trust.

• Also during this past week’s meeting of the commissioners, Chairman Randy Obermier said the county received $15,685 back from NIRMA (the county’s property insurance carrier).
• Obermier also noted he and other commissioners attended a recent meeting of the county’s planning and zoning committee. “I like that they are meeting on the third Monday of each month but I think they need some direction” as far as what they need to do next regarding solar farm zoning regulations. “They have questions about their next steps.”

“And I think Marvin (Consulting) would do more to help them,” said Commissioner Andy Bowman.
York County Zoning Administrator Nate Heinz said he reached out to Keith Marvin from the Marvin group about that as well.

• Obermier said further review of the windows on the west side of the courthouse show “we have big issues with the windows and the seals. Those numbers (as far as cost) will be coming forward and I can pretty much guess they will be staggering.”
• Obermier also noted work has started on the installation of a CO2 pipeline through the county. “They have a staging area by McCool and another place near Nobes Road. They acquired 100% of their voluntary easements. They are working south to north and the company has said communications with the county road department has been great. They do have a haul route and it looks like they are doing the right thing as far as entrances to fields.”

Commissioner Andy Bowman said he has told the pipeline construction crew about some concerns he’s heard regarding “aggressive driving” in the country, which they said would be addressed.

• It was noted that Joe Burgess and LeRoy Ott will be sworn in as county commissioners on Jan. 9.

 

YORK COUNTY – The York County Commissioners have decided to use ARPA (federal COVID relief) funds to do three overlay projects next year.

YORK COUNTY -- The York County Sheriff's Office will be participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign which will take place from December 11 to January 1. The focus of this campaign will be reducing impaired driving during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season.

YORK COUNTY – From Nov. 23 to Dec. 1, the York County Sheriff’s Office participated in the “Make It Click” traffic enforcement campaign. 

YORK – York County’s high medical claims in 2024 resulted in an 18% increase in health insurance costs for 2025.

​YORK – York County officials have started the process of upgrading the courthouse security camera system.

YORK COUNTY – The sheriff’s office will be getting some new in-car computers thanks to a grant which will cover 75% of the cost.
