Blue Valley asks for community members to take needs assessment survey

YORK – Blue Valley Community Action in York is asking community members to take a 10-minute online survey so the agency will better know “what our communities’ needs are and the best way to continue to support them.”

This confidential survey asks respondents about their financial stability and about issues which might make it hard for them to be financially stable, such as inadequate or lost benefits; too low of wages; lack of reliable transportation; childcare issues; medical bills; housing problems, etc.
It also asks about the participant’s current employment status and if they are currently using any services such as child support, disability income, food pantries, Medicaid, SNAP/EBT, WIC, etc.
Participants are also asked about their housing type – whether they own, rent, are without housing, live with family members, etc. And they are asked about the age of the residence in which they live. Another question about housing deals with issues such as lead, mold, pests, radon, etc.
A general question asks what are the top five reasons people struggle to meet basic needs, such as disability, generational poverty, not enough affordable housing, expensive childcare, healthcare costs, not enough jobs, not enough pay, substance abuse, etc.
There is also a question about the top needs in the community.
There is also a segment regarding health care, in which the participant is asked to discuss their own personal health, their access to health care, their access to mental health care and their access to dental care.
And there is a question regarding whether the participant, in the past year, worried about running out of food.
They also ask how participants hear about services in their community and what Blue Valley services they are familiar with.
This week, during the regular meeting of the York County Board, Commissioner Joe Burgess encouraged everyone to take the survey (he sits on the Blue Valley Board as the representative of York County).
