YORK – This past week, the York City Council signed off on an updated interlocal agreement with York County for the emergency communications center. The county commissioners had already signed the agreement two weeks ago.
This past week, Mindy Gerken, communications director, met with the city council. The original interlocal agreement was created in 2018 and this update makes the agreement more streamlined. Plus, the original agreement included wording pertaining to how the communications center would be set up, but with the center now established, that wording is no longer needed. As said earlier by York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier, who sits on the communications center committee, the board hasn’t changed and the two entities share the costs, 50/50. The county provides the space as part of the courthouse but the rest of the cost is split equally. “We had representatives from both parties involved in this review and it was a great exercise to go through,” said Mayor Barry Redfern. Gerken noted both the county attorney and city attorney reviewed the agreement updates. “This project, the communications center, has truly been beneficial for both the city and the county,” the mayor said further.
