YORK – This year, commercial and industrial appraisals will take place in certain parts of York and Van Guard Appraisals Inc. is scheduled to be the contracted appraiser. The commissioners were set to consider the contract with Van Guard this week, as part of their regular schedule, but they ended up postponing that decision for two weeks.
York County Kurt Bulgrin explained the reappraisals will be done for commercial properties in the southern portion of York (the entire area from the town core to the interstate and the interchange area) and the northern area of town by the industrial park. This reappraisal work will not include the businesses in the downtown area, this year. Bulgrin said there are benefits with doing this reappraisal work with Van Guard as they have worked with the county before and “they build everything into our system.” Commissioner Randy Obermier asked if they provided a break-down process for how billing and payments will take place in increments in this fiscal year and next fiscal year. Bulgrin offered the call the company and get that information. The commissioners ended up postponing their final approval for this contract until their next meeting, so Bulgrin can get that information. “This is a big number without knowing” the payment schedule, Commissioner Andy Bowman acknowledged.
