YORK – York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier and York County Commissioner Vice-Chairman Daniel Grotz recently attended a special session hosted by the Nebraska Association of Nebraska Officials (NACO) which was an educational opportunity for county board chairmen and vice-chairmen. Both agreed there was a lot of really good information provided.
“And as we always find when attended these statewide NACO meetings, we are not alone in the issues we face,” Obermier said, with Grotz agreeing. Both talked about the benefit of attending this session, as all Nebraska counties are facing issues related to zoning, unfunded mandates, broadband expansion, proposed state legislation impacting counties and more. The two talked about their NACO meeting during the committee report portion of the county board meeting. Also during committee reports, Commissioner LeRoy Ott said plans are being discussed for this year’s county government day. He also noted he’s had Region V and APACE meetings, where there have been conversations about dealing with possible funding cuts from the state. Grotz said he and Commissioner Joe Burgess would be meeting with officials from the Southeast Nebraska Economic Development District (SENDD) as Burgess transitions into the board seat which had been held by Grotz. He also noted he and Commissioner Andy Bowman were currently looking at “some different technology” upgrades for the county road department. Obermier noted there will be a lot of conversation in the near future about broadband projects, as private companies will be bidding to do projects in York County in the near future.
