YORK – The York County Commissioners have approved their first letter of support for a company seeking to do broadband expansion projects in York County. York County has multiple areas which have been identified by the state as being eligible for grant funds toward broadband expansion projects out in the country. Companies will be bidding for the contracts, which will be paid for with grant money funneled through the state – resulting in all of York County having high speed internet service.
Commissioner Daniel Grotz and York County Clerk Mary Melby came up with a letter of support which can be used throughout the process. “This particular letter doesn’t say a specific company, but if reputable companies want to do project, we can use this to show our support for them being awarded the contract,” Grotz explained. The first company to ask for and receive a letter of support is Nextlink. This company is bidding to do three project areas in York County. “It will be a good idea for all the bidding companies to come before us to ask for these letters of support,” said Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier.
