YORK – It’s not time for budget formulation and the county is mid-way through the fiscal year, so when Region 5 Systems asked for a sudden increase in funds to be paid to them in the next fiscal year, it was rejected by the York County Commissioners. York County Commissioner Deb Robertson, who is the county’s representative on the Region 5 board, said, “Apparently every county has a certain amount to pay but that amount has not allowed them to meet their needs.”
Region 5 was asking for $28,198 (which is statutorily required and has been paid on a regular basis by the county) and an additional $4,389. “I won’t support this today because we are months into our budget and months away from discussing the next budget,” said Commissioner Chairman Daniel Grotz. “I don’t feel comfortable committing to additional money at this point.” “It seems extremely early to make a budget request,” Commissioner Andy Bowman said. “Yes, it is coming in very early and it is hard to commit to at this point in the fiscal year,” Grotz said. The commissioners agreed they would pay the statutorily required amount in the next fiscal year and any additional funds, at this point, are denied. Comments are closed.
