YORK – The York County Commissioners had an exceptionally long meeting this past week, which ended with committee reports during which they updated each other on a variety of projects. York County Commissioner Randy Obermier reported how two major projects in the courthouse are nearly done. One is the replacement of all the carpet in the courthouse, which has been ongoing for years. The gradual project – meaning doing an office at a time – has been paid for with ARPA funds (federal COVID-relief funds). All that remains in a records room on the second floor.
Another major project which is nearing the finish line is the fire suppression system in the jail. Obermier said there are just some finishing projects which need to be completed. When these are all done, they will start looking at the replacement of all the windows on the second floor of the courthouse, as a leaking issue has been identified there. York County Commissioner Chairman Daniel Grotz, who sits on the York County Development Corporation Board, said “good progress” is being made toward the fundraising effort for the Southeast Community College Workforce Development Center. The clerk’s office reported how early voting is now underway for the Primary Election. Commissioner Deb Robertson said she has been through the orientation process for the Region V/APACE board and the aging services board would be meeting soon. Commissioner Andy Bowman reported on several things from the roads department, including that an 8-year-old motorgrader had broken down with the need for some costly repair. He continues to advocate for a lease program for machines in an effort toward saving repair dollars. Bowman also reported that bridge repair on Road T is completed and the staff is working on upcoming gravel bids for the year. Comments are closed.
