Commissioners to consider budget, audit contracts

​YORK COUNTY – The York County Commissioners will be considering the county’s annual contract for audit and budget work when they meet in regular session on Tuesday, July 23.
They have been contracting with Regier, Carr and Monroe LLP for a number of years. The firm assists the county commissioners with creating the budget each summer and they conduct the audit later in the fiscal year.
Years ago, the commissioners determined there was no conflict in having the same firm conduct both the budget and the audit.
Also on Tuesday’s agenda:

• The commissioners will consider a contract for a printing company to create postcards in August to comply with LB644, which requires taxing entities to send out postcard notices to property owners when the tax asking increases beyond 2%. While no one yet knows if any taxing entities in the county will be growing their tax asking by that percentage, the county will still be designating a printer should it be needed.
• The county board will consider a resolution on delinquent taxes.
• Considerations will be given to an agreement for EPC (Emergency Protective Custody) services between the county and Region V Systems.
• The county board members will conduct their quarterly jail visit.
• As the board of equalization, they will consider a large number of property valuation protests as this process continues. The county assessor has been working with the Tax Equalization Review Commission regarding valuations that had been determined as incorrect and will be providing further information to the public as soon as that is available.
• The county assessor will present a 3-year plan of assessment for the board’s consideration.
• The county assessor will also address a report regarding cemeteries in the county.
• They will also consider an application for exemption from Hope Gospel Rescue Mission for a 1994 Dodge Ram Wagon, 1994 Toyota T 100 pickup and a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. The Hope Gospel Rescue Mission is a newly formed entity.

The public is always encouraged to attend the meeting, which will begin at 8:30 a.m., in the commissioners’ meeting room located on the main floor of the York County Courthouse, next to the county clerk’s office.
