YORK – During this week’s officials’ reports portion of the York County Commissioners, York County Attorney Gary Olson said court case filings are higher than normal. Olson reported how county court filings are 22% higher, juvenile court filings are 66.4% higher and district court filings are 33% higher.
“We continue to see a lot of activity,” Olson said. He noted how, when applying for a federal grant, York was considered as a suburb of Lincoln, due to the amount of criminal activity. “So we are dealing with more than just a rural environment, we are dealing with real suburban issues,” Olson said. “To what do you attribute the juvenile numbers?” Commissioner LeRoy Ott asked. “I think issues stemming from COVID and communication pull back. I recently attended a session at York High School which talked about disruption caused by social media. Kids today have a massive struggle with social media.” Also during his report, Olson explained how he, Commissioner Andy Bowman and Sheriff Paul Vrbka were going to be having a meeting with the owner of the Sun Motel at the Henderson interchange. He recognized how the owner attended the last meeting of the commissioners, “and I applaud his openness. We will follow up. We will conversate with him, build communications, to see what can happen with the issues raised about his property and the Henderson interchange, in general.” Comments are closed.
