YORK – As the last meeting of the 2024-25 fiscal year happened this week, the York County Commissioners closed out the finances with transfers if needed. Normal transfers regarding the 911 funds were made.
Then, the commissioners transferred $130,000 from the miscellaneous fund and $53,000 from the building fund into the county court fund to cover a $182,000 shortfall. York County Commissioner Chairman pointed out how the county court budget fell short this year, “and all of that is for paying defense attorney costs.” The county has a public defender’s office but when that office has a conflict of interest, outside attorneys have to be appointed to represent indigent defendants. “This will clear her budget for this year and then we will have to prepare for what to budget this next year,” Obermier said. “This is not unusual as we’ve tried to keep the budgets tight and this particular budget and expense is simply one we cannot predict.” Regarding claims for the last claim period of the fiscal year, the commissioners described the bills as “relatively light.” “All in all, the funds are in good shape,” Obermier told his fellow county board members. “Some of the functions went over budget, but the funds are all good.” Comments are closed.
