YORK – This week, the York County Commissioners briefly talked about solar zoning regulations and a timeline was expressed – by planting season – regarding when some rules might be put in place. Last week, the county’s planning and zoning committee met to again discuss the regulations sent back to them by the county commissioners. It was mentioned they will meet again on Feb. 24 – and during that meeting, they would be acting on sending regulations back to the commissioners.
Ultimately the county commissioners will be making the final decision as to what solar zoning regulations in York County will look like. The matter has been discussed for years and there are proposed regulations on the table at this time. There are also recommendations from the Marvin consulting group (independent contractor hired by the county to help with the comprehensive plan and creating the solar field regulations). “I have a feeling that yes, they will soon be sending the proposed solar zoning regulations back to us,” said Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier. “I have the recommendations from Marvin, so do you, so I’d like this board to really start reviewing those recommendations. I would like to get these regulations finalized before planting season.” The public can see proposed regulations and recommendations from the Marvin group by going to the county’s website at yorkcounty.ne.gov/zoning.
