YORK – When it came time for the county commissioners to approve claims this week, one invoice stood out among the others – it said the county owed $375 for one dozen doughnuts. Commissioner Daniel Grotz said he reached out to the juvenile diversion department from which the invoice was submitted.
“When I saw it was for $375, for one dozen doughnuts, well I thought that sounded pretty extreme,” Grotz said as there was audible reaction from the other board members. “I reached out right away and they said it was incentive for York Middle School students to fill out a survey.” Turns out, it was a large number of doughnuts, not just one dozen – the invoice just didn’t correctly explain the volume. “If we approve this, do we need to include this email to clarify this invoice?” Grotz asked. The email will be included, to further clarify, in case there are any questions in the future. Commissioner Randy Obermier also noted this expense is reimbursable through a federal grant – so York County taxpayers are not directly paying for the doughnuts. Also while approving claims, the commissioners agreed to pay a $26,000 bill from Davis Design out of the inheritance fund. This bill pertains to the fire suppression system being installed in the county jail. This entire project is going to be paid for with money from the inheritance fund, as they also approved a $303,000 bid for the actual installation. The Davis company is designing the project. Further, while considering claims, the commissioners decided to postpone three invoices for the roads department. Comments are closed.
