County is receiving healthy amount of applications for emergency manager position

​YORK – York County Commissioner Randy Obermier says the county has been receiving a considerable number of applications for the position of emergency manager.

​During committee reports during this week’s county board meeting, Obermier said while the vacancy exists, the Fillmore County emergency manager will contract with York County “on a very brief basis” until someone is hired for the York County position.
“Last week, we had 15 applications and some will possibly be having phone interviews with HR,” Obermier said.
He noted some of the applicants are “fairly local” and some are from out of state.
Also during committee reports:

• Obermier said the York County Visitors Bureau board met and discussed small advertising grants for the Palmer Museum and the upcoming adult prom being sponsored by the York Creative District.
• Obermier also said the language of the agreement between the city and the county regarding ambulance services will need to be reviewed in the near future, as the city has raised some concerns about this long-standing contract.
• Obermier also noted there is currently a bill, sitting in committee, regarding set-back zoning laws for solar fields. He said county officials, including those here, and representatives from the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) have been watching the progress of this bill, if there is any in this short session. “But now that our board here is full again, we should start looking at our zoning again, we need to open that book back up. If that bill would have traction, it would supersede anything we do here, but that’s only if that bill goes anywhere.” Commissioner Daniel Grotz agreed how it is likely time, again, to start talking about solar zoning regulations.
• Commissioners Andy Bowman and Grotz said they are continuing to meet with personnel in the roads department and there is an ongoing theme of importance to keep up with the department’s equipment.
