County might see lower health insurance cost increases

YORK – York County might be getting some good news in the near future as health insurance cost increases might be lower than seen last year.

​York County Commissioner Randy Obermier told his fellow board members this past week how the matter will be on the agenda Nov. 10.
“We have a different situation this year as we have choices from entities who want to do business with us and it could be a little cheaper than before, or up to 10% higher. Last year, our rate went up 18% so we are in a better situation this year.”
Also during committee reports:

• Several commissioners reported attending a NIRMA conference in the last week.
• Four Corners Health Department will be having an open house on Nov. 13 from 3-5 p.m.
• Obermier reported how they will be hearing an update from the Glenwood company, regarding the broadband expansion project taking place in the southern portion of the county.
• Obermier also wanted to address questions about the authority of liaisons – meaning when one or two board members sit on other committees, representing the county board. It was discussed how the liaisons do not have independent authority while the board of five does.
• Commissioners Daniel Grotz and Andy Bowman talked about their work with the roads department in recent weeks.
• Bowman talked about working “through some issues” with the county’s historical association and they would likely be bringing forward a topic with the county commissioners.
• Commissioner Joe Burgess attended a Blue Valley Community Action meeting, during which a conversation was held regarding the federal government shut-down. He said their programming continues.
• Commissioner LeRoy Ott said he had conversations with officials from Region 5 and he also attended the NIRMA convention.
