YORK – County officials from around the state, numbering about 150, gathered in York this past week for a budget workshop. The workshop was provided by the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO). NACO is a non-profit organization which represents the interests of all elected and appointed county officials in the state. The base membership of NACO is each of Nebraska’s 93 counties, which contribute annual dues for the operation of the association.
County commissioners and supervisors, clerks, treasurers and others were on hand to learn important information about the budget process, as May is when most county officials start the annual process of creating budgets for the next fiscal year. The workshop was held at the Holthus Convention Center. The workshop included sessions led by the Nebraska Auditor of Public Accounts, interactive discussions on budgeting best practices and other key topics to support counties in preparing budgets under the new cap formula. They were also provided digital copies of the 2025 budget handbook. A number of officials from York County attended the workshop, including Commissioners Daniel Grotz, Andy Bowman, LeRoy Ott and Joe Burgess, Clerk Mary Melby and Treasurer Megan Williams.
