County will be installing lights on top of stop signs at 25th Street intersection

YORK – The York County Roads Department will be installing blinking red lights on the top of the stop signs at the intersection of 25th Street and N. Delaware Avenue.

​This is the intersection where a pickup recently went through the stop sign on N. Delaware and hit a county motorgrader on 25th Street.
Ashley Rasmussen from the roads department told the county commissioners this week how another vehicle belonging to the roads department (with the occupants being two roads department employees) was nearly hit by another vehicle running the stop sign there, a week ago.
The road department shop is located just west of this intersection.
“We ordered red blinking lights (to go on top of the stop signs) for that intersection and will be installing approach signs as well,” Rasmussen said.
And she added that if necessary they would like to put in rumble bars as well, to make sure there are no more crashes at that intersection.
“Our intent is just to make drivers more aware,” she said.
And if all works  well at this intersection,  they might look into using these precautions at some other problem intersections in the county.
Also regarding the roads department, Rasmussen acknowledged how they have been getting lots of calls about road conditions following several rounds of very heavy rain in the county. "We are getting to all the problem areas as quickly as we can. We would like to encourage the public to call it in, call us, when there are problem areas, so we can address them. We do care and are trying to get as much done as we can. If the roads are really muddy, as they are, we have to wait for it to dry out to be smoothed out or we will do more damage."
