YORK – During the York County Commissioners’ first meeting for 2026, the board voted in favor of making Commissioner Daniel Grotz the chairman of the board for 2026. Grotz has been the vice-chairman for a number of years while Commissioner Randy Obermier has served as the chairman for the past six years. Last year, the two split chairmanship service as Obermier was the chair of the commissioners and Grotz was the chair of the board of equalization. Obermier said he felt it was time for someone else on the board to be the chairman, as the intention is to move the responsibility around the seats and around the different district representations. Commissioners Andy Bowman and Joe Burgess are relatively new to the county board and there is a current vacancy for District 2 after the recall of LeRoy Ott. Everyone voted voted in favor of the appointment of Grotz as chairman, with Grotz abstaining. During Tuesday's meeting, Grotz asked for volunteers or a motion for vice-chairman but there were none. "If no one wants it, Daniel, you can nominate me," Obermier said. "As this is my first year, I moved to make Randy Obermier vice-chairman," Grotz said. Everyone voted in favor, with Obermier abstaining. When it came to the board of equalization, Obermier said, "Last year, we did a separation so Daniel could gain experience with running meetings and this year I move he also be the chairman of the board of equalization." The other commissioners agreed, with Grotz abstaining. Then, Grotz moved for Bowman to continue being the vice-chairman of the board of equalization, which everyone agreed with, with Bowman abstaining. "I have big shoes to fill, but I appreciate the vote of confidence," Grotz said. "I will do my best to keep everything running smoothly." Comments are closed.
