Eight appeals in York County filed with TERC, disagreeing with board decisions regarding valuations8/21/2025
YORK – This year, the York County Commissioners, sitting as the board of equalization, considered 170 protests filed by property owners who argued the assessor’s valuations were not correct/equalized. The board of equalization then voted whether to uphold the assessor’s valuation or charge the assessor’s valuation.
The property owners then have the ability to file an appeal with the state’s Tax Equalization Review Commission (TERC) where they can argue the board of equalization’s end ruling was incorrect. The assessor also has the ability to file an appeal with TERC regarding the board’s end rulings in which the assessor’s valuation was not upheld and he disagrees with action taken by the board. This week, York County Commissioner Daniel Grotz, who is the chairman of the board of equalization, told his fellow board members how eight appeals have been filed so far. Of those, one was filed by a private property owner and the other seven were filed by the county assessor. He also said it is expected “there will be more appeal filings coming as well.” Appeals with TERC must be filed by Aug. 25. It is likely these appeals will not even be heard by TERC until next year because of the backlog of appeal cases. Assessor Kurt Bulgrin said there are a handful of valuation appeals still waiting to be heard by TERC from York County from past years. Comments are closed.
