YORK – It’s excruciatingly dry, as everyone is well aware. And with that unfortunate reality, a lot of producers are irrigating right now. When they are doing so, county officials are asking them to just make sure their pivots don’t water any roads in the process. Ashley Rasmussen from the York County Roads Department talked about the matter this week, as she made the department’s report to the York County Commissioners.
“We are getting a lot of calls about pivots watering roads and not only does that create a safety issue, it also causes the county to lose product that has been put down on the road,” Rasmussen said. This reminder comes each summer, especially when irrigating is in full swing. As the reminder came last year, Deputy York County Attorney Chris Johnson also reminded the public if a roadway is damaged by irrigation, that is a felony. “Please just double check to make sure your pivots aren’t creating any damage to the roads,” county officials say. “Please, just make sure you are complying with state laws.” Also during the roads department report:
