Fatal car/motorcycle accident on Highway 34 claims one life in York County on Fourth of July

YORK COUNTY — The collision of a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Highway 34 and Road P in York County, on Thursday, July 4, has resulted in the death of one person.

Captain Josh Gillespie with the York County Sheriff’s Department says that approximately 5 p.m., Thursday, July 4, the accident occurred.

Responding to the scene were the York County Sheriff’s Department, the Waco Fire Department, the York Fire Department, the York Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol.

Highway 34 was closed off for two miles, between Roads Q and O, with traffic being rerouted to rural York County roads.

Captain Gillespie said one person was killed in the accident. The name is not being released as law enforcement is still on the scene and family members of the deceased have not yet been notified.

The highway was opened again to traffic at 7:25 p.m.

More details will be released on July 5, as the investigation is still ongoing.
