Filings have begun for local Primary Election races

​YORK – Filings have begun for local races to be considered in the 2026 Election cycle. 

​According to the York County Clerk’s office/election office, the following people have filed to run for local positions:

• Sharilyn Steube, incumbent, Republican, Clerk of the District Court
• Josh Gillespie, non-incumbent, Republican, York County Sheriff
• Alison North, incumbent, York Public Board of Education (this is a non-partisan race)
• Alex Hildebrand, incumbent, York Public Board of Education (this is a non-partisan race)
• Stephen Postier, incumbent, York City Council (this is a non-partisan race)
• Don Copeland, incumbent, Village of Waco Board of Trustees (this is a non-partisan race)
• Rick Pfeifer, incumbent, Village of Waco Board of Trustees (this is a non-partisan race)

If someone is interested in filing as a candidate for a county, school, city or village seat, they can go to the clerk/election offices which are located on the main floor of the York County Courthouse.
Village board races will not appear on the primary ballot, as they automatically advance to the general election. Even though these filings have extended filing deadlines (in the summer), candidates can file now if they choose.
For the city, school and county tickets, incumbents must file by Feb. 17 and non-incumbents must file by March 2.
