YORK COUNTY – This week, Lori Byers, director of York County’s aging services and public transportation program, reported to the York County Commissioners there might be some future good news regarding state funding for the transit system. She brought forward a one-year agreement with the Nebraska Department of Transportation and noted the next year of funds from the state will be about $5,400 less than it was before.
But as the state looks at the year after that, “they will consider giving us more in the next year, maybe matching our need. So that’s some good news. Meanwhile, I’m looking at some extra funding sources, such as grants.” During a prior meeting, Byers was concerned about a major cut in state funding – but now it appears that threat may be lessening. She and the commissioners had a conversation about looking at user fees in the future. Byers noted that even with a very slight increase in user fees, “it would still be a cheaper service than most found in the state.” Comments are closed.
