YORK COUNTY – Daniel Otto of Gresham is seeking the recall of Gresham Village Board Chairman Tony Cain. He filed his petition this week with the York County Clerk’s office.
Otto’s formal statement of his reasons for seeking the recall says, “Mr. Cain has treated citizens unfairly. Has overstepped his bounds on issues. Really needs to get both sides of an issue. Needs to treat all people with respect and listen to them. Keep the calm on village issues. He seems to act on his own feelings, instead of going to the board first. Just be friendly!” Cain now has the opportunity to file his formal response, which will appear on the petition sheets. Then Otto will be able to circulate the petition within the village limits of Gresham. He must gather signatures from registered voters living in Gresham and he has to gather 45% of the total number of votes for that particular position in the last election. Otto has 30 days to circulate the petition. If the 45% is achieved, the county clerk’s office then has 15 days to check the validity of the signatures, according to York County Clerk Mary Melby. If the minimum number of signatures is achieved, a special election will be scheduled. It is likely the election, if held, will be conducted through the mail. If an election is held, the decision regarding a recall will be based on the majority vote among registered voters within the Village of Gresham. Comments are closed.
