YORK – Gresham Village Board Chairman Tony Cain has issued his formal response to a recall petition effort filed by Daniel Otto of Gresham. Otto filed to begin a recall petition this week with the York County Clerk’s office. His formal statement is, as being his reason for seeking recall, says, “Mr. Cain has treated citizens unfairly. Has overstepped his bounds on issues. Really needs to get both sides of an issue. Needs to treat all people with respect and listen to them. Keep the calm on village issues. He seems to act on his own feelings, instead of going to the board first. Just be friendly!”
Cain’s response, filed Thursday morning, says, “This recall appears rooted in personal disappointment over an unsuccessful bid for village employment, not in facts. I have acted within my authority, followed all laws and procedures, and served our citizens faithfully. Disagreement is not disrespect. I listen to all perspectives, make informed decisions, and place the village's best interests above popularity or politics.” Otto can now circulate the petition within the village limits of Gresham. He must gather signatures from registered voters living in Gresham and he has to gather 45% of the total number of votes for that particular position in the last election. Otto has 30 days to circulate the petition and he must gather 36 valid signatures. If the 45% is achieved (and he gathers 36 signatures), the county clerk’s office then has 15 days to check the validity of the signatures, according to York County Clerk Mary Melby. If the minimum number of signatures is achieved, a special election will be scheduled. It is likely the election, if held, will be conducted through the mail. If an election is held, the decision regarding a recall will be based on the majority vote among registered voters within the Village of Gresham. Comments are closed.
