YORK – The York County Commissioners and York County Clerk Mary Melby went on a tour of the York County Jail this past week and were able to see the progress on the installation of the new fire suppression system. The county board was already scheduled to take their quarterly jail visit – this time, they had the chance to see how this major project is coming along.
York County Corrections Director Janelle Vice showed them areas where the installation continues to be underway and areas where the work has already been completed. There were hopes the project would be completed by the end of January but it might last longer than that. This is an intense project as the fire suppression system must be concealed to avoid any human hands having access to it. It’s a safety issue for inmates. And projects such as this take longer than those in other facilities because there are security concerns to address and extra practices to be done. Meanwhile, Vice said the jail is full. As of Tuesday morning, York County’s custody count was at 29 inmates in the York County facility and 12 inmates being housed elsewhere. Comments are closed.
