Jail fire suppression project nearly finished, window project to start soon

​YORK – During this week’s regular meeting of the York County Commissioners, the board approved a change order for the fire suppression system project in the jail which they hope will be wrapped up soon.

​Commissioner Randy Obermier said it was discovered a valve into the courthouse needed to be replaced and would cost an extra $1,425. The change order was approved.
Meanwhile, Obermier said they have been trying to get “an end date” as to when the project will be completed.
During committee reports:

• Work continues to update the building where the historical association was located and into which District 5 Probation will be moving. Obermier said they are waiting to hear more on bids for flooring.
• As reported earlier, there was damage in the court offices on the second floor of the courthouse due to leaking. Obermier said the windows will have to be replaced “and I would assume it will be somewhat expensive.”
• Regarding the on-going, gradual project to replace all the carpeting in the courthouse, Obermier said that after a year or more, the only offices left to re-carpet are those of county court, district court and public defender. “During that work, everything in those offices will need to be moved out – we will need to protect the documents while that is underway” and there is a space to store them.
• Commissioner Deb Robertson reported how she has been holding public meetings in her district.
• Commissioner Andy Bowman reported on behalf of the veterans committee how York County Veterans Service Officer Nick Wollenburg is currently deployed, but the office will stay open and will run as normal with his assistant.
• Bowman and Commissioner Daniel Grotz have been working with the roads department.
• Grotz said interviews continue as they search for a new emergency manager for York County.
• Greg Heine from the roads department reported how the construction season is starting and the department will soon be switching to its 10-hour days.
