YORK – One of the most successful K9 officers in the history of the York County Sheriff’s Office is retiring after six years of service. It was announced this past weekend how Loki is transitioning to retirement which will consist of a “well-earned life of rest and relaxation with his family.”
Loki arrived in York County in 2019, coming from the Netherlands. He has worked with his partner, Korey Goplin, since then. Loki has been instrumental in combatting drug trafficking over the years, with the sheriff’s department noting he has been “deployed in hundreds of traffic stops throughout his career, resulting in the seizure of over 10,000 pounds of drugs, over $6 million in drug money, stolen firearms and an abundance of other contraband.” In 2021, Loki gained national recognition by the National Crime Enforcement Association for two separate traffic stop deployments in which he sniffed out the single largest drug (1,420 pounds) and drug money ($1.6 million) seizures in the country that year. The York County Sheriff’s Office has historically had a successful and active K-9 program. Recently, York County K9s Loki and Justice were observed and evaluated by Nebraska Police Service Dog Program Administrator Mike Kerby who was impressed with their talents in detection and obedience, as well as the York County K9 program as a whole. The YSO has wished Loki a happy retirement, while noting “Loki Boy” will be missed. Comments are closed.
