YORK COUNTY – The last of the 2024 valuation protests were addressed this week, before the York County Commissioners sitting as the York County Board of Equalization. They met with York County Assessor Kurt Bulgrin to address just a few of the last protests which were filed.
These were from the second round of protests as a glitch in the system earlier this year created incorrect valuations for numerous property owners in York County. Those were corrected and then the protest window opened again. This week, Bulgrin said he was able to reach some agreements with property owners regarding their initial protests and the board members approved those agreements. He brought forward a few more, including one for a grain bin. He said he stood by his recommendation for the value of the bin, which was upheld by the board of equalization. “And then we go out west of Benedict regarding the property known as the solar barn,” Bulgrin said. “They (the entity which owns it) said they felt the value was too high but they didn’t completely fill out the protest form. I’d recommend we leave the valuation as it is.” The board of equalization agreed and denied the protest. They also accepted his recommendation to deny a protest regarding improvements to a building which is located on leased ground near Sacks Lake. “They say the valuation should be lower because they only use it ¾ of the year, but it’s not like they rip out the plumbing and improvements during the times it’s not in use,” Bulgrin said. “Is that the end now?” asked Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier. “That is the end,” Bulgrin said. The valuation process for this year has ended and the valuations have been certified. Comments are closed.
