YORK COUNTY – Years ago, York County and the village of Lushton signed off on an agreement in which Lushton would give the county its highway allocation funds and the county road crews would take care of the roads/streets within the village. This past week, the county renewed that agreement after it had been discovered it hadn’t been revisited in a long time.
“Basically, this arrangement started years ago and somewhere along the way, we forgot to renew it,” explained York County Highway Superintendent Harvey Keim. “New members on the Lushton Village Board discovered it hadn’t been done. They give us their highway allocation funds, which is roughly about $8,000, and we do their gravel and maintenance work.” “I think it would be good for us to look at this one and all of our agreements every year instead of every five years which can translate to 20 years or just forget about it,” said Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier. “I can’t argue with that,” Keim responded. It was noted this entails maintaining a small amount of roads/streets. The commissioners agreed to renew the agreement with a recommendation they should review it on an annual basis.
