YORK COUNTY – Jason Perdue of rural York County has been appointed as the newest member of the York County Planning and Zoning Commission. His appointment took place Tuesday morning as the York County Commissioners met in regular session.
This seat on the commission became vacant upon the retirement of a longtime member. “Since the vacancy was created, I had two people come forward to me, expressing their interest in serving,” said York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier. “They were Willard Peterson and Jason Perdue. I appreciate any time someone comes forward, willing to volunteer and serve. And I appreciate both of them coming forward saying as much. That said, both happen to be members of the county’s board of adjustment but I don’t think that has much bearing on this because the board of adjustment hasn’t been called to convene in several years. “All that said, I will always lean toward the future of our county and Jason comes from a younger generation,” Obermier said. “Willard, I appreciate your willingness to serve, but I will put forward the name of Jason Perdue for this position. He is a young ag producer in rural York County, he and his wife have a chicken barn and do other things in the ag community. “He realizes things will be busy for a while as they start working on the new comprehensive plan,” Obermier said further. “I think he would be a good fit.” In the last year, the planning and zoning commission has been busy with the formulation of proposed zoning regulations for solar projects. They have also been recently tasked with starting the process of creating proposed zoning regulations for wind farms. And the process of updating the county’s comprehensive plan is just getting started – which takes place every 10 years. The members are not paid. They act as a board which makes recommendations to the county commissioners, with the county board members having the final vote. “I’ve worked with him in the past and I think he would be a good fit,” said Commissioner Andy Bowman. All the board members agreed to appoint Perdue. Comments are closed.
