YORK – York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier and Vice-Chairman Daniel Grotz, along with York County Assessor Kurt Bulgrin, met recently with representatives of the Nebraska Department of Revenue, to plan for notifications and valuation changes this year. “We had a good conversation,” Grotz said, regarding that meeting. “We are putting together a plan for notification of valuation changes this year.”
Last year, certain areas saw very high valuation increases, due to the use of a newer calculation system. After the valuations were found to be so high, the commissioners later agreed to allow these properties to stay at the same valuation they were the year prior. The problem, however, according to state officials, is that this has put the equalization out of the allowable realms. “Yes, we met with her and this year will be confusing again,” Obermier said. “Taxpayers will be getting valuation notices, some will get preliminary notices. The rural acreages should be within 92-100%, the problem is they are sitting at 63% as they are now. There will be increases this year and we will see protests. The assessor’s office can talk with property owners about their concerns, work with them, but then after March 19 it will be up to the board of equalization.” More information will be published after the plan is completed.
