YORK – The York County Commissioners, sitting as the York County Board of Equalization, officially adopted all the property tax levies for the political subdivisions in York County, during their regular meeting this past week. Commissioner Randy Obermier noted, “Sometimes the general public might be confused when we adopt these levies. We set them but we don’t determine the levies for the different subdivisions, we don’t do their budgets and we have nothing to do with that process on their end. The levies are presented to us and we officially adopt them.
“That said, a couple of these subdivisions should thank the county clerk for calling them and asking for them to send these in because they hadn’t yet,” Obermier said. “If she hadn’t done that, they would have lost their taxing authority for the year and maybe that should happen sometimes because it’s not the county clerk’s job to tell them what their jobs are. Everyone has to play by the same set of rules.” He said two subdivisions were so late in sending in their levy information, they nearly missed the board of equalization’s scheduled action. “So thank you, Mary (County Clerk Melby) for doing that for them,” Obermier added.
