Road work to start soon in York County

​YORK – Some overlay work will soon be done on specific stretches of road in York County.

​Overlay work on Southwest Nobes Road will probably take place in the next few weeks, to be followed by Country Club Avenue, then East 25th Street, then Road G.
These projects are on the county’s one-year plan.
The commissioners were informed of the timeline during this past week’s report made by York County Highway Superintendent Harvey Keim.
Also during this past week’s commissioner meeting:

• York County Visitors Bureau Director Alex Saathoff said attendance has been very good during recent local events and their digital campaigns continue to be very successful.
• Commissioner Joe Burgess said in committee reports he would be attending a meeting of the Southeast Nebraska Development District this week.
• York County Commissioner Andy Bowman reported how the safety committee met the week prior and there have been discussions within the roads department regarding safety during harvest season. He also noted there was a meeting of the York County Historical Association and there are plans for the collection to be moved to the new location on Sept. 18. He also noted a lot of people went to the new location downtown for a sneak peek during Yorkfest.
• Commissioner LeRoy Ott said he attended a meeting of the board for the county’s aging and transit department. He also attended a meeting of the board for Region 5 and APACE. He noted Region 5 has $650,000 in opioid settlement money and he is hoping the Four Corners Health Department will be receiving some of those funds.
• Commissioner Daniel Grotz said he attended a meeting of the board for the York County Development Corporation and discussions continue within the roads department to streamline operations.
• Commissioner Randy Obermier noted how a meeting of the board for the Four Corners Health Department was held the day before and a meeting was soon to be held for the York County Visitors Bureau board. He also noted how county officials would be attending the central district meeting of the Nebraska Association of County Officials this week.
