YORK – With the end of 2025 quickly approaching, the deadline is arriving for the county to finish spending all of its ARPA (federal COVID relief) dollars. And with a recent paving project being completed (which included new overlays being done at a variety of locations), nearly all the ARPA dollars have been used.
Less than $1,000 remains, York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier said. The county received about $2 million in ARPA, total. The money was used for a variety of projects with the overlay project being the last. While the overlays are completed, there is still some shoulder work to be done, as well as painting/striping, York County Highway Superintendent Harvey Keim said. The commissioners noted how they have received good comments from the public who use the areas where the new overlays have been done. Also, while discussing roads department issues, the commissioners again reiterated the need for everyone to be careful while out traveling on county roads, as this is obviously harvest season. “We are just asking for wise judgment when you are driving out there,” said Commissioner Daniel Grotz. “And as a grain cart driver, I can tell you we will get out of your way when we can. We don’t want to hold anyone up, we just want everyone to be careful.” “Every year we see tragedies happen on the roads, and especially this year with railroad crossings as semis have been hit and there have been accidents with harvest equipment in several areas of the state,” Commissioner Obermier added.
