Roads, weeds, zoning, veteran affairs – commissioners hold meeting, discussions on number of topics1/27/2026
YORK – When the York County Commissioners met this past week, they discussed a number of topics, ranging from roads to weeds to zoning to veteran affairs and more. Greg Heine and Ashley Rasmussen met with the board to talk about road department issues. Rasmussen said the department has been seeing an uptick in calls about garbage being left in country road ditches. She also said all the mowing and dirt projects for the winter are completed.
Also in matters related to roads, Commissioner Andy Bowman said they spent time driving some roads in the Arborville area, where issues had been reported. York County Zoning Administrator Nate Heinz said the planning and zoning committee would be holding a brief meeting to discuss a conditional use permit – that permit will be coming before the board of commissioners in the near future. The commissioners approved a memo of understanding between the county and the Nebraska Department of Veteran Affairs. York County Veteran Service Officer Nick Wollenburg explained how this arrangement results in access to the computer programming his office utilizes. He said all 93 counties in the state use this program. Commissioner Randy Obermier said he felt the county board should have some conversations with Blue Knight Security about guard staffing at the metal detector outside the courtrooms. “It sounds like there have been times they had to scrounge to find people to work, to provide that security.” Obermier also noted how the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) has started holding its legislative forums (via Zoom) on Fridays. York County Commissioner Chairman Daniel Grotz said he recently attended a meeting of the York County Development Corporation executive committee “and it appears the proposed workforce development center is continuing to move forward.” Grotz also noted how the commissioners would be going through their committee assignments at the next meeting, now that Commissioner Deb Robertson is officially on the board. As the board of equalization, the commissioners approved two tax list corrections presented by Assessor Kurt Bulgrin. He said the corrections were due to private land being sold to the state. The commissioners had to make a few funding transfers this past week. The budgeted amount of $500,000 was transferred into the general fund from the inheritance fund. The budgeted amount of $20,000 was transferred from the general fund to the emergency management fund. And the budgeted amount of $20,000 was transferred from the general fund into the state institutions fund. And after going into a short executive session, the commissioners unanimously voted to deny a request for general assistance. Comments are closed.
