YORK COUNTY – Last year, the York County Commissioners signed a letter of support as part of Glenwood Telecommunications’ grant application, as the company sought funds toward offering high speed internet service in an unserved area near McCool Junction. The funds were received and the installation of the infrastructure got underway. Now, the project is nearly complete and very soon, 53 rural residences – who are currently unserved – will have the opportunity to have high speed internet.
Company representative Jennifer Reiman told the York County Commissioners this week how the main line fiber is in place “and we will start hooking up customers in the next few weeks. People are very excited about it.” York County Commissioner LeRoy Ott offered that while he was attending a recent conference of the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO), he was pleased to hear from other county officials how Glenwood has a “great reputation out there, which makes me feel good as they are installing fiber in our county and applying for a grant to do more.” The nearly-completed project enters York County from Glenwood’s connection in Fillmore County and then goes toward the Sacks Lake area. And in the next week, Glenwood will be applying for another grant to do another project in rural York County – this time in an unserved area near Lushton. The commissioners have already pledged $400,000 from the inheritance fund as the county’s participation. Reiman said the grant application will also include letters of support from District 24 State Senator Jana Hughes, York County Development Corporation Director Lisa Hurley, the McCool Public School administration and others.
