Scammers are threatening power disconnection; York County Sheriff’s Office and Perennial say hang up3/2/2026
YORK – According to Perennial Public Power and the York County Sheriff’s Office, scammers are targeting customers in this area, threatening to disconnect electrical services at specific times unless payments are made via a retail store. “They are texting bar codes to pay at Dollar General and they are creating a sense of urgency to get the customer flustered,” Perennial representatives say. “If you receive a call from a 562 area code, that is not us. We will not do any of those things. If you are questioning a disconnect for non-payment, please hang up and call us at 402-362-3355.”
Both agencies say, “Watch the signs” for scams. “Perennial, as a business practice, does not call to ask customers for a credit card number. Perennial does not demand payment with a pre-paid card or gift card. Any customer receiving such a call should not attempt to make payment over the phone using a credit or debit card.” Comments are closed.
