YORK – This week, the York County Commissioners approved the second-to-last housing rehab grant request, as the successful program nears closing. The program started in 2020 – and was quickly stalled because of the pandemic. But after the COVID situation began to be resolved, the county reinvigorated the effort and more owner-occupied housing rehabilitation projects were undertaken.
This program was for qualifying homeowners to have access to grant funds to help them make necessary improvements with the purpose of bringing their houses up to code. The grant was awarded to the county and administered by the Southeast Nebraska Development District (SENDD). Applications were presented to a housing committee which made recommendations and then the county commissioners approved the projects as they were brought to them. The maximum allowance per project was $25,000. The grant program started with an award of $500,000 from the state with a $50,000 county match. There were more than 50 applicants for this program with applications coming from qualified property owners in Benedict, Bradshaw, York, Henderson and Gresham. Comments are closed.
