YORK – York County Sheriff Paul Vrbka is warning residents about a current scam in which criminals are calling individuals in York County, saying they are deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Office. “They then say the individual missed serving jury duty and they owe money, with instructions on how to pay the money if they don’t want to be arrested,” Sheriff Vrbka said. “Well, first of all, these are not deputies from the York County Sheriff’s Office or any other sheriff’s office. And if someone misses jury duty, deputies do not call them to ask for money in order to not be arrested. This is a scam. Hang up. Do not give them any personal information and do not give them any money.”
Sheriff Vrbka said his office received several reports yesterday and today regarding this attempted scam. “This is just not the practice regarding jury duty, at all,” Sheriff Vrbka said. “Deputies will not be calling you, asking for money in any way, ever. So do not say anything, do not give them money or information. Just hang up.” Comments are closed.
