YORK COUNTY – The sheriff’s department recently participated in the “Put The Phone Away Or Pay” campaign, from April 7-14, conducted through the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. Sgt. Taylor Samek says, “During this time, deputies assigned to this initiative contacted 76 motorists and issued 26 citations. Citations were issued for a wide variety of traffic-related offenses to include speeding, failure to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle, open container, seat belt/child restraint violations and reckless driving. Deputies made one DUI-alcohol arrest, on DUI-drug arrest, one felony arrest and apprehended one fugitive from justice.
