Sheriff’s department participates in “Put The Phone Away Or Pay” campaign

​YORK COUNTY – The sheriff’s department recently participated in the “Put The Phone Away Or Pay” campaign, from April 7-14, conducted through the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.

​Sgt. Taylor Samek says, “During this time, deputies assigned to this initiative contacted 76 motorists and issued 26 citations. Citations were issued for a wide variety of traffic-related offenses to include speeding, failure to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle, open container, seat belt/child restraint violations and reckless driving. Deputies made one DUI-alcohol arrest, on DUI-drug arrest, one felony arrest and apprehended one fugitive from justice.
