YORK – Work is still underway for the installation of a fire suppression system in the York County Jail. This past week, York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier told his fellow board members how he and Brian Lewis, maintenance director at the courthouse, “did a walk-through of the sprinkler project which was 50% done at that point.”
This project takes longer than a typical suppression system installation because considerations have to be given to the fact inmates are housed there 24 hours a day, every day. Security measures have to be taken and inmates have to be moved to different cells when work is being done in certain places. And the materials/design have to be of a certain grade to make sure they are safe and secure in a penitentiary setting. Obermier said the project “should be finished by the holidays, sounds like this have gone very well.” Comments are closed.
