YORK – Cosmetic work will soon begin inside the space previously used by the York County Historical Society as there are plans for District 5 Probation to expand its office area into that side of the building. York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier told his fellow board members how he and Commissioner Daniel Grotz recently visited the building, as have members of the county’s maintenance crew.
“There is paneling throughout that building and they have fixed some of the area with dry wall,” Obermier said. “They have also put out for bids for flooring and painting. “We also spoke with some from probation, outside, and they said they honestly weren’t even expecting on moving into there for quite some time, really no time soon, because they thought it was going to take months for the historical association to move everything out.” The historical association has already completely moved the entire collection to the new location in downtown York, so this process is going more quickly than anyone had expected. Once the cosmetic work is done inside the building, probation will expand into that side of the structure. “Also, they said they will not be asking for anything more in the future,” Obermier said, with the board members chuckling. “This should do it now, to fulfill their needs.” The county is required by state law to provide office space for probation services.
