YORK – Interested individuals who want to file as write-in candidates for the General Election in November have until Oct. 25 to file with the county clerk’s office. As explained by York County Clerk Mary Melby, “to be a write-in candidate, the person will have to fill out an affidavit and pay 1% of the annual income if it is a paid position.”
Write-in candidates’ names do not appear on the ballot itself. And their names will not appear anywhere with official election notices. The point of being a write-in candidate, who has officially filed as such, is that if they receive votes, those votes will be counted. As explained by Melby, “only the certified write-in names will be counted. Random write-in votes for ‘Mickey Mouse’ and ‘anyone but them’ will not be counted. But if they have certified their names as write-in candidates, their names will be counted and considered as official." Melby said write-in candidates have until Oct. 25 to file the affidavit and pay the fee if the election position is a paid position. Comments are closed.
