YORK – The York County Commissioners have set April 1 as the day for a vote to be taken on solar field regulations. “As you are all very aware, the planning and zoning board sent back the proposed solar field zoning regulations, with no changes, back to us,” York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier said to his fellow commissioners this week. “I asked for this topic to be on our agenda today, just for discussion, so we all know what this will look like as we move forward.
“I think it’s important that we tackle this as soon as possible,” Obermier continued. “For our next meeting, Commissioner (LeRoy) Ott will be gone and I would prefer, as I’m sure you would also, to have everyone here to take a vote.” Commissioner Ott agreed, saying he wants to be present for the final vote. He was already scheduled to not be present due to a prior commitment at the next meeting, but will be present on April 1. “So I would like us to discuss the regulations at our next meeting and then discuss and take action on April 1,” Obermier said. “I am asking all of us to take this time to go back and review the proposed regulations and the recommendations from Marvin Consulting. This timeframe gives us roughly a month to do so. If there are some major changes, we will need to have another public hearing but if there are not major changes, we can take a vote without having another public hearing.” The commissioners asked for copies of the regulation draft as it stands now, as well as a copy of the recommendations made by the Marvin consultants regarding solar regulations. “And at our next meeting, I would like us to have a conversation about Marvin because I do not think we are getting our money’s worth,” added Commissioner Andy Bowman. Obermier said that could certainly take place and said he would be reaching out to Marvin Consulting to make sure they have someone in attendance on April 1 as the commissioners plan to take a vote.
